This lesson has two goals:

  1. To engage essays focused on what it means to be educated and to continue to make connections between the various sources we've read thus far.
  2. To complete, review, and revise your synthesis essay before submitting it for assessment.

Prepare

Read

As you read the essay assigned this week (see link in this folder and below), consider the following questions:

  • What is cow, according to Perry? What is bull?
  • Is it true, as Perry suggests, that people who only cow lose their souls? Why/why not?
  • Is it true that people who only bull rob themselves of the joy of inductive discovery? Why/why not? What is inductive discovery?
  • Perry contends that facts are only facts within frames of references. How can that be so?
  • According to Perry, what part does hard work play in acquiring knowledge?
  • What does Perry value most? Why?
